Could 2024 Be the Year Shohei Ohtani Achieves MLB’s Historic 50/50 Season?

2024 MLB odds: Can Shohei Ohtani register MLB's first 50/50 season?

2024 MLB odds indicate that Shohei Ohtani has a legitimate chance to register the league’s first-ever 50/50 season.

On August 23, in a thrilling matchup against the Tampa Bay Rays, Los Angeles Dodgers superstar Shohei Ohtani made headlines by stealing his 40th base of the season. He followed this remarkable feat by hitting his 40th home run in the bottom of the ninth inning—a dramatic walk-off grand slam that secured a victory for L.A. and solidified his place in MLB history.

With this outstanding performance, he joined an elite group as the sixth player in MLB history to achieve at least 40 home runs and 40 stolen bases in a single season, officially entering the prestigious 40/40 club.

Could he be on the verge of becoming the first member of the 50/50 club?

Examining the latest odds from FanDuel Sportsbook as of August 26 reveals intriguing possibilities for Ohtani’s future:

Ohtani to hit 50+ home runs and record 50+ stolen bases in the 2024 regular season

Yes: +175 (bet $10 to win $27.50 total)
No: -270 (bet $10 to win $13.70 total)

The exclusive 40/40 club includes notable names such as Jose Canseco (A’s, 1988), Barry Bonds (Giants, 1996), Alex Rodriguez (Mariners, 1998), Alfonso Soriano (Nationals, 2006), Ronald Acuña Jr. (Braves, 2023), and now Ohtani.

Remarkably, Ohtani achieved this milestone in 21 fewer games than any other member of the club, showcasing his exceptional talent and efficiency.

Additionally, he has the opportunity to become the first player in MLB history to record 45 home runs and 45 stolen bases. While Rodriguez stole 46 bases with 42 homers, Soriano hit 46 homers alongside 41 stolen bases, and Acuña stole an impressive 73 bases with 41 homers, none have reached the 45/45 milestone.
