The college football transfer portal tracker highlights that Cade McNamara of Iowa is set to enter the portal, signaling another major shift in player movement this season.
The transfer portal officially opens on Monday and will remain active until December 28.
Players from teams competing in the inaugural 12-team College Football Playoff, along with those in subsequent bowl games, will have an additional five-day window in January to enter the transfer portal after it closes.
Now, let’s examine some of the notable players who are making waves with their transfer decisions.
Iowa QB Cade McNamara
Cade McNamara is on the move once again, having announced on Wednesday his intent to enter the transfer portal as it opens.
This marks McNamara’s second entry into the portal; he previously transferred to Iowa from Michigan after the 2022 season. The Hawkeyes had high hopes for McNamara to enhance their offensive capabilities, but his 2023 season was marred by a torn ACL just five games in. In 2024, he managed to throw for 1,017 yards, six touchdowns, and five interceptions over eight games, missing the last four games of the season.
Before his time at Iowa, McNamara played a key role in helping Michigan secure the Big Ten title in 2021, though he lost his starting position to J.J. McCarthy the following season.
Texas A&M QB Conner Weigman
Conner Weigman, a standout recruit from the Class of 2022, is also entering the transfer portal, as he shared with ESPN. Initially the starting quarterback for the Aggies, Weigman’s season was hampered by injuries and inconsistent performance, leading to Marcel Reed stepping in as the starting quarterback.
Stanford QB Ashton Daniels
Ashton Daniels, Stanford’s leading quarterback, is set to seek new opportunities as he confirmed to On3 that he will enter the portal. Throughout the 2023 season, he started nine games and recorded 1,700 passing yards, with 10 touchdowns and 12 interceptions. Additionally, he led the Cardinal in rushing, accumulating 669 yards and three touchdowns on the ground. Daniels has one year of eligibility remaining.
His backup, Justin Lamson, is also planning to transfer.
Michigan WR Tyler Morris
Tyler Morris, the leading wide receiver for the Wolverines in 2024, has announced his intention to leave the program. He led Michigan’s receivers with 23 receptions for 248 yards and two touchdowns, although he fell short of tight end Colston Loveland in overall production. Despite these modest stats, Morris’s performance was impacted by Michigan’s struggles to find a reliable quarterback after J.J. McCarthy, his former high school teammate, departed. He has one year of eligibility left.
USC QB Miller Moss
Miller Moss, the 22-year-old quarterback from USC, will also enter the transfer portal as of December 2. Moss expressed gratitude for his time at USC, stating, “I really enjoyed my time at USC. It was transformative for my life as a whole and for me growing up for the last few years. I’m thankful. I gave that program everything I had. There comes a point where there’s a time to move on to new opportunities, and I’m hoping to better myself as a person and a player.”
After serving as Caleb Williams’ backup for two years, Moss started the 2024 season as the Trojans’ quarterback. He completed 64.4% of his passes for 2,555 yards, 18 touchdowns, and nine interceptions before losing his starting position in November.
Liberty QB Kaidon Salter
Kaidon Salter, the starting quarterback for Liberty, announced on December 2 that he will enter the transfer portal. Salter was recognized as the 2023 Conference USA MVP, leading Liberty to the Fiesta Bowl. Over his college career, he has amassed 7,900 passing yards and 77 touchdowns, with one season of eligibility remaining.
FIU QB Keyone Jenkins
Keyone Jenkins, a standout quarterback from FIU, also announced his intention to enter the transfer portal on December 2. Jenkins has two seasons of eligibility left.
Texas Tech WR Micah Hudson
Micah Hudson, a highly regarded prospect from the 2024 recruiting class, declared his intent to enter the transfer portal on December 1. Although Hudson was ranked as the 25th overall prospect, his freshman season did not meet expectations. He has three years of eligibility remaining.
FIU WR Eric Rivers
Eric Rivers, another FIU standout, announced his decision to enter the transfer portal on December 1. Rivers was among the best wide receivers in the nation in 2024, finishing fourth in both receiving yards (1,172) and receiving touchdowns (12).
North Carolina State WR Kevin Concepcion
Kevin Concepcion, a talented wide receiver from NC State, also announced his entry into the transfer portal on December 1. Concepcion earned the ACC Rookie of the Year award and was recognized as a freshman All-American in 2023.
Georgia CB Julian Humphrey
Virginia QB Anthony Colandrea
Boston College QB Thomas Castellanos
Thomas Castellanos announced his plan to enter the transfer portal on November 14. After starting 12 games in the 2023 season, Castellanos was Boston College’s starting quarterback until he lost his position to Grayson James with three games remaining in the season.
