The Racers Seek an Upset #5 vs #12 Seed Win
The Murray State Racers closed the regular season on a move, winning their final 11 games, as well as the Ohio Valley Conference Tournament championship game, to receive their bid to NCAA March Madness Tournament. Murray is 27-4 on the season and look to earn one of those upsets that tend to pop up in 5/12 games. Murray State drop back by five at the half but collected themselves to come back to hold a one-point advantage with 2:47 to play. Murray State closed the game strong, finishing on an 11 to nothing run to earn the win and the conference tournament crown. The Racers shot 46.8% from the field, including three of 14 from three-point land, and controlled the glass by a 46-31 advantage. Ja Morant led Murray State with 36 points and seven rebounds in the victory.
The Marquette Golden Eagles Hope Shift Gears with Late Season losing Trend
The Golden Eagles hobbled into the NCAA March Madness Tournament as their overtime loss to Seton Hall in the Big East semifinals continued a late-season slide. Marquette is 24-9 overall but lost five of their final six games going into this one. The Golden Eagles led by three at the half and trailed by seven with 2:52 to go before rallying to force overtime. In the extra session, Marquette had a chance to get the win in the final seconds but missed a short jumper as time expired. The Golden Eagles shot 35.6% from the floor, including eight of 26 from beyond the arc, and missed 12 of 41 free throws in a choppy affair. Sam Hauser led the Golden Eagles with 22 points and nine rebounds in the loss.
I’m projecting a double-digit Golden Eagles win; this line is short. Back Marquette, which came within a basket of reaching the Big East final, to improve to 5-0 ATS in its last five non-conference games.
