SAN ANTONIO @ UTAH | 2/09 | 5:00 PM EST
San Antonio dropped their third straight as they were defeated in Portland Thursday night. The Spurs entered Friday seventh in the Western Conference, 2.5 games clear of ninth-place Sacramento. San Antonio led by three after the opening quarter, was outscored 39-23 in the second quarter to trail by 13 at the half and managed to tie the game at 88 with two minutes to play in the third. The Spurs gave up an 8-2 run to close the stanza and that told the tale: they wouldn’t get closer than three in the final 12 minutes.
Utah won for the 11th time in their last 14 games as they routed Phoenix at home in their last contest. The Jazz entered Friday sixth in the Western Conference, 2.5 games ahead of the ninth-place Kings. Utah led by six after the opening quarter, by 10 at the half and by eight after three quarters before blowing Phoenix out 37-17 in the fourth. The Jazz shot an even 50 percent from the field, including 11 of 28 from three-point range, and forced 22 turnovers in the win. Donovan Mitchell led Utah with 21 points in the victory.
San Antonio is also a rock-solid 15-6 against the spread against teams with a .550 win percentage or higher. Conversely, Utah is 9-15 ATS under the same stat window. San Antonio is also 16-11 against the spread as an underdog. And my projections like those trends to continue — the Spurs coverin nearly 60 percent of my model simulations at this price.
