SAN ANTONIO @ MINNESOTA | 1/18 | 8:00 PM EST
The San Antonio Spurs will try to end their recent slump on Friday when they go on the road to take on the Minnesota Timberwolves. After losing three out of four games, the Spurs bounced back by edging out the Dallas Mavericks in a nail-biter. Meanwhile, the Timberwolves were absolutely crushed in Tuesday’s outing against the Philadelphia 76ers.
The Spurs were down by as many as 19 points in Wednesday’s game on the road against the Mavericks. They were being completely dominated on both ends of the floor and on the verge of losing their third consecutive game. By the end of the first quarter, the score was already 35-20 with the Mavericks pouring it on offensively.
The Timberwolves ran into an old friend as they were being demolished on the road by the Sixers. Jimmy Butler, the former Timberwolves guard, was on the floor in a Sixers jersey helping pile on the humiliation of his former team. He dropped 19 points, three rebounds, four assists and two steals in a 149-107 win.
The home team has covered the last six meetings in this series, and my numbers say the trend holds up Friday when the Timberwolves host the Spurs. Minnesota needs a win to gain ground in the playoff race and it could be a good time to catch struggling San Antonio, which has lost two of its last three. My simulations have the Timberwolves winning 67 percent of the time.
